What is a Smart911?

There was a discussion about having a database to help the emergency services identify us, especially with our need for interpreters and health information. Yes, here is one!

During an emergency, having the appropriate personnel, equipment, and information is imperative to the responding agency's ability to manage the situation appropriately. With this in mind, several Florida counties have joined the national Smart911 network to improve its emergency response through the use of vital information provided by residents.

Smart911 allows residents to create free Safety Profiles of critical household data that could be pivotal to first responders during an emergency. The profiles can include anything from phone numbers, medical conditions, and disabilities to photos of family members and floor plans.

The more information a citizen can provide to us in an emergency, the better. The time during an emergency is often very chaotic, and details, besides the vital questions, can be advantageous when made available to the 9-1-1 Telecommunicators. Smart911 allows citizens to provide us with those details before an emergency proactively.

With Smart911 being a national network, anytime a citizen dials 9-1-1 across the country and a local Smart911-supported center answers the call, their profile will be available. This could make the dispatcher privy to crucial, possibly life-saving information.

Those interested in creating a Safety Profile can do so by visiting this Smart911. Each Safety Profile is private and only available to dispatchers during an emergency call.

Smart911 is available in 24 states, including many counties in Florida.

DO NOT WAIT! You can go ahead and start your registration with Smart911 for your household.
